Christmas Day

Posted by on Dec 25, 2011 in Motorcycle Vagabonding, Roswell NM | Comments Off on Christmas Day

Well, I came to Roswell so I could ride my motorcycle year-round. Turns out they are having a record-breaking winter (this is our second snow storm) and this time we got over 12″ of snow. Probably not too remarkable to my friends in New England, but for this gal that’s trying to avoid winter, well, it didn;t quite work out that way. Nonetheless, it is gorgeous here and I wouldn’t trade my spot on this ranch for any other adventure (I might, however, if this snow keeps up…) Here are some wintry pics…At least it feels like Christmas! Have a Merry Holiday everyone!       Please follow and like...

Finally got on the bike yesterday after a 3 week hiatus…man it felt good. I only rode about 40 miles before the wind chill got to me…misjudged the temp and didn’t have the Warm ‘N Safe on board. Note to self: ALWAYS CARRY ELECTRICS!!! Please follow and like...

Visiting Carlsbad Caverns (NM)

Visiting Carlsbad Caverns (NM)

Yesterday I went with my New Mexico hosts to Carlsbad, NM. First, we took a walk along the Pecos River     Ah, Thanksgiving. Yes, I ate too much food.   but then I got to walk it off visiting Carlsbad Caverns. If you have never been there,  let me tell you it is awe-inspiring. Called the Eighth wonder of the World, the subterranean beauty will take your breath way (even if the 750′ elevator ride  or 1.2 mile hike into its depths does not). Enjoy the pictures!     By the way, there is no colored light in the Caverns: all the colors you see are the natural colors of the rocks.     Please follow and like...

On the Road with Igor

Posted by on Nov 11, 2011 in Motorcycle Vagabonding, USA | 1 comment

Change of plans last week via a serendipitous email, and instead of riding to the Anza-Borrego desert I met up with my friend Igor and we spent four days riding from the LA area to the Bay area. A considerable feat seeing that he lives in Thailand. We just happened to be in the same place going the same direction at the same time. Highlights of our time together included the Bristlecone Pine Forest and Yosemite, as well as stealth camping IN BEAR COUNTRY (my favorite!) Remember Igor? He’s Igorshen on ADVrider, and we first met in El Salvador on New Year’s Day 2010, and then later we rode into the Darien together. Igor is a fantastic photographer, and I am happy to have some really nice pics of me riding. Thanks Igor!       Please follow and like...

Solo Time

Posted by on Oct 20, 2011 in Adventure Travel, Motorcycle Vagabonding, USA | 1 comment

I love presenting at events an talking to folks, and I love visiting friends. But it’s time to take some solo time and recharge. I’m riding South from Malibu and headed to Anza-Borrego State Park. Never heard of it? Neither had I until I chatted with some local folks. From the web site: http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=638 Anza-Borrego Desert State Park is the largest state park in California. Five hundred miles of dirt roads, 12 wilderness areas and many miles of hiking trails provide visitors with an unparalleled opportunity to experience the wonders of the California Desert. The park is named for Spanish explorer Juan Bautista de Anza and the Spanish word borrego, or bighorn sheep. The park features washes, wildflowers, palm groves, cacti and sweeping vistas. Visitors may also have the chance to see roadrunners, golden eagles, kit foxes, mule deer and bighorn sheep as well as iguanas, chuckwallas and the red diamond rattlesnake. I’ll upload some pics after my visit there… Please follow and like...

These two little twin angels are already hard-core moto-travelers…and the youngest ones at the event I believe…who says you can’t incorporate adventure into your everyday life or everyday life into your adventure…you just have to be open to imagining it!!! Inside the Women’s Traveler Session…with 33 women the INTRODUCTIONS took the whole hour. Too bad, too. SO much road wisdom in that room. 33 women joined in at the women’s moto traveler discussion…so many amazing women and so little time to know them all! The dining hall and central gathering place…great food + great people=great times Group Camping at teh HU event…with a not-too-shabby unobstructed view of the Pacific ocean!!! Met so many great folsk at the HU event! Here’s a group I admire. ***Serious*** RTW travelers! Please follow and like...

Hanging out in Malibu

Hanging out in Malibu

It May be Monday, but I don’t have the blues.  I’m hanging out in Malibu! The Horizons Unlimited event is over, and my friend Chris invited me to come and visit for a few days. He and I and another friend Kim rode here together from the event. Chris took me on some local roads, not just down the highway, and so it was a lovely end to a great weekend.   We were even joined for a while by a famous motorcyclist…anyone recognize this famous traveler?   We stopped at an old stagecoach stop-turned local and motorcycle hang-out, and it was pretty neat. (You’ll have to wait to hear about that until the story hits print.) At one point we *did* get on the 101…Here’s a video from the helmet cam: (Mom, you can stop reading right now.)   Scared the bleep out of me…and I’ve ridden in some bleepy places!!!   Pictures from the HU event coming up next… Please follow and like...
