Whirlwind week

Posted by on Oct 11, 2009 in Motorcycle Vagabonding, Travel Prep | Comments Off on Whirlwind week

Wow, I’ve been home for just a week now, and so much has been happening. First of all, it was great to see Edward again, my travel partner this summer on the TAT and CDT. I’ve been catching up with friends, doing errands, cleaning up lots of paperwork left over from before I left in June, cleaning up more loose ends as I prepare to be gone for the next 8 months. I have a million things to do...

Back in Connecticut

Posted by on Oct 8, 2009 in Motorcycle Vagabonding, Travel Prep | Comments Off on Back in Connecticut

Well I got back to Connecticut yesterday. I was ready to cry mercy by the time I got back “home”–1100 miles in the cold on a small dirtbike, I must have earned some tough biker chick award or *something*. Dang, it was a long, cold ride. So now I have a couple of weeks of “down” time–finishing up a couple of projects, writing magazine articles about my adventures so I can have some things in print while I am...

On the road back to Connecticut…

Posted by on Oct 3, 2009 in Motorcycle Vagabonding | Comments Off on On the road back to Connecticut…

Sadly left Mom’s this morning and headed North. Luckily, she only lives 30 miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway and so I hopped on the BRP and had a fine ride for about 210 miles today. I got a late start today because it was cooooooooool in the mountains. Made it to Doughton park and camped there on the Blue Ridge. EVEN COLDER! I think my camping days this season might be over. Met a great guy, Etienne from...

Still in North Carolina

I’ve decided to stay in NC for another week…throughout my busy “corporate” life I’ve never been able to come and visit for a goodly chunk of time. I’ve also discovered that I can save almost $900 on my travel innoculations, getting them done at the Buncombe Public Health Dept rather than in Connecticut. Getting them done here is a no-brainer, especially since Mom will make me chicken soup if I feel poopy after all those shots! Oct 1 I...

Two Days in San Antonio

Posted by on Sep 11, 2009 in Motorcycle Vagabonding | Comments Off on Two Days in San Antonio

We made it to San Antonio and decided to stay 2 days…a very nice and hospitable ADVrider couple is putting us up. I needed a day off from riding every day in the rain (I caught a cold I cannot shake riding every day, most of the time wet & cold). Our host has a great shop with a lot of tools, and EW has been eager to tear into his KTM, so I get a day’s...

Finished Continental Divide Trail

Edward and I finished the Continental Divide Trail…and a great ride it was. I must admit it’s kind-of a let down after all the goal-oriented riding we’ve been doing. His big news? While shopping for a front tire tube for me, he found a *screaming* deal on a KTM 950 Adventure, so voila’, he’s now riding a bike twice as fast and powerful as my poor little Suzi...

So here I am at the HU meeting in Gunnison, meeting tons of other travelers, som with quite inspirational stories. All levels of riding ability here, but we all have one thing in common: we all choose to explore our world on two...
