On the Road

Posted by on Nov 4, 2009 in Mexico & Central America, Motorcycle Vagabonding | 2 comments

Well, I’ve spent two days on the road so far and the bike is running great. What a difference to be riding a 650 instead of a 350. I put about 15,000 dirt miles on the DR350 this summer and, well, that gets you pretty used to a bike and it’s shortcomings. You just sort-of learn to live with them. The DR650 is a dream–I can cruise along at 70 comfortably (thanks in part to the MRA windshield). I’m...

We had a fantastic day Saturday (Halloween) and quite a nice turn out for my send-off party. It was great to reconnect with old friends, and be able to show off my bike. Plus, I was pleased that all the crap I packed fit into the...

I’d read about some of the suspension work they’d done for racers and other travelers, and decided to use them because I was adding so much extra weight to the DR650. They offered to sponsor my ride (because it’s for Breast and Ovarian cancer CURES) and whipped up a set of shocks for me in what must have been record time. I’ve only...

Twisted Throttle has dedicated a HUGE amount of staff time to outfitting my bike so it’s just perfect for me (Thanks Mr. Twisted for allowing Dereck to spend so much time on it!) We arrived here is Peacedale, RI last night and I got my first look at my (new to me) 2003 DR650SE…it’s awesome! Ill post a picture as soon as I figure out...

I’ve decided to make my South American trip an extension of my “Adventure for the Cure” fundraising efforts this summer, and will be riding with the goal of bringing breast health awareness throughout the Americas, and fundraising along the way. Donations for finding breat cancer and ovarian cancer CURES can be made directly HERE . Please know that any monies you donate go directly to the CURES… I am paying my own travel expenses!!! TWISTED THROTTLE has come on...
