Well, I’ve been here in the Azores for a week now and things have been so hectic I’m a bit behind in posting… I am here working for Biosphere Expeditions, an award-winning conservation company that leads volunteer expeditions. Their main web site is : and the direct link to the expedition I am leading is: Where the heck are the Azores? In the Atlantic Ocean, about 1000 miles off the coast of Portugal. The I’m on the island of Faial, and our base camp is in the city of Horta. Horta is a nifty town, and not like most port cities (dirty and ugly). It’s quite bright, hospitable, and still friendly to tourists. There’s a laid-back atmosphere that’s the norm, yet it’s not an “I don’t care” attitude…just a slower pace. Travel on the Cheap in Europe: The steep learning curve

Thus begins three months of travel for me in Europe–without the motorbike. If you are a hard-core fan of my motorcycle adventures, I guess you can just tune back in mid-June, when I return to the USA and a busy riding season. If you are up for other types of adventure, as I am, sit back, relax, and I’ll deliver some juicy bits… First of all, I want to say how good it feels to be back in Europe. Just sitting in the Paris airport with all the unfamiliar sights and sounds and smells and cultural diversity–OMG I want to much more of this (travel) in my life.  I haven’t been to Europe in about 6 years, and it’s just so good to be back.
